CrossFitter of the month January: David

David started CrossFit in May 2011 in Heidelberg. Right from the beginning he was, and is still, pretty eager about the technique, which clearly shows a role model attitude. He started of with a 100kg Dead lift and now has a 135kg 5 rep max, which is almost twice his body weight. David is 45 years old but one of the fittest CrossFitters that are training with us. He has for example a 23 round Cindy, which is awesome! Lately he took the London Throwdown qualifiers, but unfortunately they did not have a masters category. Also he strictly follows the paleo diet, which shows his great motivation and he can now barely use the last hole in his belt (when he started he had to use the first one). Besides that he really encourages other people to do CrossFit, just with his strong belief in it. David, you are a role model, keep going!

100% deserved! It is always nice to do a WOD when David is at the box. Almost always. Sometimes the coachs are just too mean even for “fun” to stay fun, but that never stops David! Congrats!

Now get back to the gym!

It’ s good to see David as the Athlete of the month here, because he definitely deserves it. He’s very inspiring to have around: always humble, always working hard, 100% determined, never complaining. I’m always humbled by the amount of workouts he manages to squeeze into a single week. I always work a bit harder when he’s around – I’m 24, about half his age, and he keeps kicking my ass.

    Squat!

Everytime I go up to Heidelberg I end up training with David one way or another, be it in the same group for a testing day or a “normal” WOD, and I always leave baffled at how strong and how hard he works. We both hit back squat PRs on the same testing day and his attitude is what fired me up enough to get the weight up. I can’t wait to train with you again in the near and distant future brother. Best of luck to you in the Open!

At 45 years old I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few accolades tossed my way. In all my years, being an ATHLETE of the month has never really been on my radar. If anyone I grew up with heard me referred to as an athlete of the month (or for that matter the athlete of the day!), I’m sure the laughter would be heard for quite a while!

Any success I’ve had in becoming anything anyone would recognize as an athlete is due to quality training. CrossFit is a great methodolgy, but it takes trainers who are dedicated to being the best they can be, and who genuinely care about the people they train to make that methodology come alive. Gregor and Johann, you guys are the best, and your patience and diligent efforts on the part of all of your athletes shows every day. It may sound cheesy, but I count it a privilege to be a part of CrossFit Heidelberg.

Along with great trainers comes the importance of a group of people who are going all out everytime we come together to train. The athletes at CrossFit Heidelberg are an inspiration and a motivation every day. I count it an honor to train with any one of you guys!

You guys are more than the people I train alongside. You’ve become like family, and I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I appreciate each and every one of you at CrossFit Heidelberg.

    Now, let’s get it!
